This presentation describes the context of emergence for the UN CBD. It focuses on the evolution of approaches regarding biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of resources. An overview of the different strategic plans and targets adopted throughout the UN CBD's history is also provided.  

• Pierre Spielewoy (French National Museum of Natural History)

This presentation details the main processes and mechanisms of the UN CBD, describing the Convention's organisation, mandates and involved stakeholders. It introduces the UN CBD’s main actors, meetings, conduct of business and tools to understand UNCBD meeting documents.  

• Erie Tamale (UN CBD Secretariat)

This presentation covers the role of Technical and Scientific Expertise in the UN CBD context. It provides information on the dedicated provisions in the Convention's text as well as Decisions. Finally, it introduces possible opportunities for engagement of Technical and Scientific Expertise in UN CBD processes.

This presentation describes the role and organization of SBSTTA in the context of the UN CBD. It specifically addresses precision in the terminology (science/technical/technology) employed by this framework and the UN CBD Articles that are relevant in this context.  It finally makes the link between SBSTTA and IPBES activities.  

• Hendrik Segers (UN CBD and UNCBD SBSTTA NFP; Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences)

This presentation provides targeted information on the role of a UN CBD NFP and a SBSTTA NFP. It also presents the related terms of reference and a diagram to explain NFPs' roles and margin for action in UN CBD processes.

• Robin Goffaux (French Foundation for Research on Biodiversity)

This presentation introduces the SBSTTA-25 agenda and challenges in the KM-GBF's context. The focus is thus on SBSTTA-25 issues, agenda items and documents in preparation for the meeting.

• Maïté Delmas (GSPC NFP for France; Global Partnership for Plant Conservation; Botanical Gardens of France and the Francophone Countries)

This presentation focuses on the establishment of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, its key achievements and the creation of the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation (GPPC). It provides information on related tools and support actions such as the role of National GSPC Focal Points and the GSPC Toolkit. Advice on joining the GPPC is also offered.
