The next workshop in the series is a workshop on 18 and 19 September 2023. Following the training session of 4 September 2023, this workshop will elaborate written briefing notes for several of the SBSTTA25 agenda items.

October will kick-off with an Experts-Negotiators dialogue among experts and negotiators to the CBD SBSTTA 25, organised by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Science. The event will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 2nd October 2023 and will feature exchanges on technical and scientific issues between experts, negotiators from European and associated countries, building on the outcomes of Task 2.1 (Set up of communities of experts) and Task 2.2 (Preparation of technical outputs for CBD meetings).

After that, on 4 October 2023, the project partner the French National History Museum (Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle) will be hosting a training session for experts on CBD processes. The online event will be attended by an estimated 100 participants.

This training session will be open to all European experts who responded to the CO-OP4CBD Call for experts, as well as National CBD Focal Points. The participants will have the chance to learn more about:

  • The context and history of the CBD

  • The processes and mechanisms of the CBD

  • The place of scientific expertise in the context of the CBD

  • A special insight on SBSTTA 25 and feedback from experts who have already participated in CBD events

Finally, CO-OP4CBD will hold a training session for CHM NFPs experts, organised by the project partners French National History Museum (Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle) and Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Science. The event will take place in Brussels, Belgium between 8 - 10 November 2023 and 30 European CHM National Focus Points are expected to attend.

The goal of the training session is to provide a clear overview of the CDB processes so that experts can participate in CBD events, with particular attention paid to the Technical and Scientific cooperation mechanisms.
