An SBI-7 side event: “The European and Central Asia Centres of the Technical and Scientific Cooperation Mechanism”

On 11 August 2026, a side event on the European and Central Asia Centres of the Technical and Scientific Cooperation Mechanism (TSCC) took place during the Seventh meeting of the Subsidiary Body of Implementation (SBI-7) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Hosted by the EC, IUCN and RBINS, this side event aimed to showcase the subregional TSC centres in Europe and Central Asia, their specific roles and functions, as well as the latest updates regarding their development. In this context, representatives of both TSCCs engaged in an open discussion with the audience.

In addition, a panel of experts put in the spotlight the shared goal of inclusive and efficient technical and scientific cooperation, guided by the vision of the KMGBF. Moreover, as part of a broader discussion on TSC initiatives, CO-OP4CBD’s efforts in supporting technical and scientific cooperation were highlighted.

Held in a hybrid format, this meeting provided an opportunity for Parties to deepen their understanding of the TSCC’s operational models and contribute to building a demand-driven interaction framework based on their capacity needs.
