The outcomes of SBSTTA-27: an analysis by CBD Women’s Caucus
The CBD Women's Caucus is a self-organised global platform advocating for and contributing to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) in a gender-responsive manner. It aims to support women’s and girls’ rights in biodiversity policy and action.
In November 2025, this organisation presented an analysis of the outcomes of SBSTTA-27, with a focus on the women and girls’ perspectives in all their diversity, including Indigenous Peoples, local communities and people of African descent.
This document followed the agenda items of the meeting, including:
- planning, monitoring, reporting and review: global review of collective progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF);
- matters related to the work programme of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES);
- biodiversity and climate change;
- scientific and technical needs to support the implementation of the KM-GBF;
- risk assessment and risk management;
- invasive alien species;
- biodiversity and agriculture;
- biodiversity and health.
The analysis provides details on these items – more information for each one of them, why are they relevant for gender justice, what happened/did not happen during the negotiations and what are the next steps for advancing women’s rights in the future.
