On 6-10 July, the 8th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB'26) brought together researchers, policymakers and practitioners in Leiden, the Netherlands, to discuss biodiversity conservation. 

Within the framework of this event, HUN-REN CER, supported by the CO-OP4CBD project, organised the roundtable “How can conservation research support the European Subregional Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centre (TSCC)?”.

Held on 7 July, this roundtable explored opportunities for cooperation and coordination in peer-to-peer matchmaking and knowledge exchange, including the integration of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and the engagement of its holders within the European context.

The European subregional TSCC’s governance, objectives and workplan were presented to conservation specialists, with emphasis on the future Knowledge Hubs, facilitating their engagement in its activities, by the following speakers: 

• Kinga Öllerer (organiser) and András Báldi (HUN-REN CER);
• Gregoire Dubois (Knowledge Centre For Biodiversity; JRC);
• Jorge L. Ventocilla (RBINS);
• Tommaso Demozzi (IUCN European Regional Office).

These discussions enabled the exchange of best practices in mission-oriented science, the sharing of case studies and the identification of opportunities for collaboration.
