Robin Goffaux, one of CO-OP4CBD’s partners from the Foundation for Research and Biodiversity, was in the spotlight during COP16 Colombia in an interview with the Agroecology Coalition. As part of its coverage of the biodiversity summit and its “Voices from COP16” series of videos, the Coalition sought Robin’s insights as a SBSTTA NFP for France.
Sharing his points of interest going into the Conference, he put emphasis on the scientific and technical outputs that are due to be agreed upon during the negotiations as next steps in the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Robin elaborated that those will be of key importance to the CO-OP4CBD project as they will shape the future support mechanisms between researchers and policy practitioners across Europe.
When asked about the importance of agroecology, he asserted that the discipline has an essential role to play in the systematisation of the CBD’s stipulations in their integration into the agricultural sector. He cited the recently launched guidance, “Boosting Biodiversity Action Through Agroecology”, as a testament to this fact. A joint endeavour of 6 international organisations including the Agroecology Coalition, the report is meant to assist decision-makers as they develop new measures in support of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
