On 27 October 2024, CO-OP4CBD partner Robin Goffaux (Foundation for Research on Biodiversity) was featured as a speaker at a side event of the Nature Positive Pavilion during COP16 Colombia. The side event titled “Boosting NBSAPs through agroecology – launch of a new Guidance Tool” was co-organised by WWF, BIOVISION, the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, the Agroecology Coalition & Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT.
The event focused on the link between the emerging discipline of agroecology and the national implementation plans related to the CBD and its associated Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. A dedicated Guidance Tool, developed to mainstream agroecological insights into the development of NBSAPs worldwide, was presented to the audience. This was followed by a discussion on the specificities and challenges surrounding the inception of the national plans.
In this context, Robin emphasised the significant potential of agroecological approaches to facilitate the adequate implementation of NBSAPs. More specifically, he highlighted that the discipline’s reliance on stakeholder engagement can be particularly useful as national biodiversity plans come together. Nevertheless, he asserted that current outdated yet firmly established practices in the agricultural sector will need to be modified as the ecological transition takes place.
