CO-OP4CBD co-organises a side event at UNFCCC COP30
At the upcoming UNFCCC COP30, taking place in Belém, Brazil, CO-OP4CBD in collaboration with its sister Horizon Europe projects Bioagora and RESPIN will co-organise a side event titled “Science-Policy for Biodiversity & Climate: Experiences from Europe, Latin America and Africa.”
The event, to be held in the Blue Zone (Side Event Room 2) on 17 November from 16:45 to 18:15 (GMT-3), will bring together international experts and institutional representatives to discuss how strong science–policy interfaces (SPIs) can support the achievement of both biodiversity and climate goals under the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
The session will open with an introduction by Alicia Pérez-Porro, Head of Policy Engagement and Institutional Relations at CREAF, followed by presentations from representatives of four projects:
- Anna de las Heras Carles (CREAF) - CO-OP4CBD
- Josie Antonucci (Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity, University of Oldenburg) - BioAgora
- Carlos Hernández (Humboldt Institute) - RESPIN
- Kaisa Mustajärvi (City of Tampere) - NetworkNature
The event will feature a panel discussion on experiences from Europe, Latin America and Africa to enhance the SPIs and the climate-biodiversity nexus, exploring lessons learned and pathways for greater regional collaboration. An African expert will also join the discussion to provide perspectives from the continent’s growing biodiversity-climate interface initiatives.
The session will serve as a valuable opportunity to connect experiences from across continents and to showcase Europe’s leadership in building inclusive, collaborative Science Services for Biodiversity.
